It is certainly not by chance that Disentis is the home of zai. Although skiing in this Surselva monastery village only dates back to the early twentieth century, its basis - the joy of the mountains - was discovered here by the Benedictine monk Placidus Spescha (*1752). Spescha’s pioneering spirit as «perhaps the first true mountaineer» is clearly reflected in zai. He overcame the fear of the mountains among his contemporaries, and proved that with prudence, determination and good equipment this grandiose world can be experienced with exhilaration and deep contentment. zai offers new ways of getting to know and love the mountains.
